played live - getting some cool trippy sounds out of a little circuit i built. Jammin on the 60hz hum! i think my body was an acting as an antenna for that ubiquitous drone as i laid my hands on the device. Reminds me of certain early progpsy tunes, c. 1999. These small sound clips i made while accompanying friends to make hands-free climbing on a small creek near toconao south of san pedro de atacama. They like to play drums to quench anxiety. Was in october 2012.

I recorded the sound of my wooden, squeaky screen door opening and then bouncing shut with a couple bangs. You can hear the squeak of the hinges as the door is opened, then again as it starts to close. The stretching and retraction of the spring is slightly noticeable. The door bounces a couple times as it closes, and you can also hear the latch rattling at this time. Recorded with audacity on my computer using a cheap, hand-held piezo mic. (i recorded this for use in a theatrical play i was working on [ daddy's dyin'. . . Who's got the will? ] because i couldn't find anything suitable elsewhere. ).

Boring sound. . . Neuron patch (?). . . Inspired by nlc squid axon (i have saved some hp for that one!) i have patched up a simple 2 stage asr with 2 s/h. Most of the time it plays its atonal melody, but when the patch is stimulated (by a sloth lfo) feedback opens up. I can adjust the sensitivity in different ways (so i can simulate the intake of drugs. . . ). The sound from the oscs goes though vcfs with some resonance. The vcfs are controlled by the same sloth lfo. My neuron patch. . . No hands during recording. My favourite part is when nothing happens - for almost 1 min?! but you can hear the filter working via the vcfs. The cv must be in some strange area.

In front of my desk in my room is a wood paneled wall with a cubbie. It's about a foot wide, 10 inches from top to bottom and maybe 7 inches deep. I'm just guessing. Around this cubbie is a border of wood. In the bottom right corner under the border i have jammed one end of an elastic string that used to have glitter on it. It's from a christmas box of chocolates my uncle sent me last year. I stand in front of this cubbie whose bottom is at chin height, (i'm only 5ft1in) so my arms are above my head as i pull this string across the cubbie to the border on the left which acts as my only fret. The string is a few inches longer than the cubbie is wide, but when i pull it it gets longer so my hand is 3/4 along it's length as i pull back and forth across the border to tighten and loosen the string. In the second part until 02:29 i am playing 45 to 60° from horizontal and it sounds like a full-bodied string bass with no buzz. In the last part beginning at 02:34 i am playing about 75° from horizontal across the top border of the cubbie on the left so it sounds buzzy and african again, and i'm just going crazy goofing around with a crazy bluesy rock sort of rhythm. There didn't seem to be any homemade 1-stringed wall-cubbie basses on this site so here is mine, have fun. I found this old c-60 cassette labelled "xx" in a local thrift store. (i like to collect found sound recordings-- sometimes there's some pretty weird stuff!) well, it turns out i found some guy's old tape recording involving him having sex while blasting some awful anne murray cover album. . . The recording is the post-sex dialogue, right after that final song fades out. . . At the end, the woman asks something like "are you going to get your tape recorder?" and the guy seems to become flustered, saying something like "i wasn't recording, it's off!"
